Eligible pensioners and Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) beneficiaries are entitled to FREE hearing services including testing, fitting and rehabilitation from accredited providers such as Queensland Hearing Aids and Audiological Services. This Federal Government funded scheme is administered by the Office of Hearing Services.
Queensland Hearing Aids & Audiological Services offers FREE hearing services to eligible pensioners and DVA patients at all locations. For clinic locations, click here.
In addition, pensioners can access an annual maintenance and battery supply service for a nominal fee of approximately $35.70. There is no out-of-pocket expense for this service for DVA beneficiaries as it is covered by the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
Application Procedure
- Visit your Medical Practitioner where he/she can check your ears are free of wax and identify any contraindications to hearing testing or the fitting of hearing instruments.
- Ask your doctor to sign a 'new OHS client application form' from the Office of Hearing Services. Download the form or find out more here.
- Complete your personal details on the Application Form and send it directly to the Office of Hearing Services at the address indicated on the Application Form.
- The Office of Hearing Services will confirm your eligibility and send you a Voucher for Hearing Services and information about Service Providers located in your local area. This process will take approximately four to six weeks.
- Once the Voucher for Hearing Services has been received you should make an appointment for a Hearing Assessment and let the clinic receptionist know that you hold a Voucher for Hearing Services.
- A full assessment will then be carried out and hearing aid/s or devices will be prescribed as required.
- A written report will be forwarded to your referring Medical Practitioner for his/her information, treatment or referral as appropriate.
